Lake Stevens Caps Undefeated Season With 32–0 Championship Win Over Renton

From the opening possession, Lake Stevens set the tone with crisp execution and aggressive play on both sides of the ball. On the first play from scrimmage, quarterback Nixon Galbraith found Moroni Tevaga for a nine-yard gain. He followed that up with another short completion to Treycen Peterson, who moved the chains. Then Peterson took over on the ground, slipping past defenders for a 34-yard touchdown run that lit up the scoreboard. After a successful two-point conversion, Lake Stevens took an early 8–0 lead.

 Renton’s response quickly stalled. After two runs from Rjaykayden Falsis Yagumyum netted no gain, Mikhail Conway picked up just two yards, and Dion Hooks was dropped for a loss on fourth down by Lake Stevens’ Akem Seguro for a turnover on downs.

After taking possession of the ball, Lake Stevens wasted no time adding point to the scoreboard. On the very next play, Tevaga broke free on a 17-yard run up the middle for the Vikings’ second touchdown of the game. That drive took just one play and gave Lake Stevens a 14–0 cushion midway through the opening quarter.

Renton tried to answer with a couple of modest gains from Falsis Yagumyum, but another negative play and a fourth down stop gave the Vikings the ball back again. Akem Seguro and the Lake Stevens defense began to bottle up the Renton attack, keeping them behind the sticks and off-balance. Late in the quarter, Seguro took a handoff for six yards before the period ended.

In the second quarter, Lake Stevens struck again with their most explosive play of the half. After Galbraith scrambled for nine yards and Tevaga followed with another seven-yard gain, Graham Shields took a handoff and weaved through the defense for a 42-yard touchdown run. The Vikings extended their lead to 20–0 and continued to control time of possession and tempo.

To Renton’s credit, they showed signs of life late in the second quarter. A 20-yard run by Treyden York moved the Rangers into scoring position, but they could not capitalize. A run for loss followed by an interception from Wyatt Dreher of Lake Stevens cut the promising drive short. On the next possession, the Vikings needed just one more big play to break things wide open. This time it was Greyson Hroncich slicing through the defense for a 53-yard touchdown to make it 26–0 before halftime.

Despite trailing by four scores, Renton kept competing. Hooks ripped off a 52-yard gain to begin the next drive, but Renton again struggled in the red zone. Consecutive negative runs followed, and the Vikings defense forced another turnover on downs. The first half ended with Lake Stevens in complete control of the game.

In the third quarter, Renton looked to mount a comeback, but their opening drive ended with a fumble recovered by Dreher. Lake Stevens would take possession and look to their passing game, as Seguro dropped back and found Shields for a 33-yard touchdown reception, his second score of the day. That play pushed the Vikings’ lead to 32–0 and effectively put the game out of reach.

Renton’s offense continued to push in the second half, but the Vikings defense refused to let up. Quincy Mitchell, Conway, and Falsis Yagumyum all tried to generate momentum on the ground, but gains were minimal, and Lake Stevens defenders like Galbraith, Seguro, and Bernardo Kraft clogged every lane.

 In the fourth quarter, Renton put together one final surge. Hooks added runs of three, three, and four yards before Camron Charles picked up a yard. Then an eight-yard gain followed by a three-yard pickup helped get the Rangers near midfield. Finally, on their last offensive snap of the game, Hooks delivered one more explosive play with a 30-yard run, his second long burst of the afternoon.

 Still, Lake Stevens’ defense stiffened once again, and the clock soon expired with the Vikings celebrating their undefeated season and championship win.

Lake Stevens excelled in all three phases. Their offense combined balance and explosion, their defense delivered key stops and takeaways, and their special teams came through with successful conversions.
